Fugitive arrested after standoff near Merlin
A fugitive wanted on numerous charges in Jackson County was arrested Thursday morning after a brief standoff at a rural location near Merlin. Ty Ray Nunes, 34, was taken into custody about 9 a.m. at a home on Cienaga Lane. That’s in the Azalea Drive area between Grants Pass and Merlin. Oregon State Police described Nunes as the subject of an “extensive search for many months because of the numerous criminal activities he has been involved in, to include felony eludes, robberies, federal warrants and narcotics.” That included an incident last month in which he eluded capture after an all-day standoff on Doneen Lane west of Grants Pass. According to a news release: “The Oregon State Police learned Nunes may be at a residence in the 700 block of Cienaga Lane in Josephine County and responded to the area. “Additional law enforcement also responded and assisted in taking Nunes into custody after a brief standoff. “During the past few weeks law enforcement arrested seven other individuals while attempting to locate and arrest Nunes.” After his arrest, Nunes was lodged in the Jackson County Jail in Medford. Court records indicate he was wanted on perhaps a dozen or more failure-to-appear warrants there. Nunes also was lodged on a federal hold. OSP credited numerous agencies with assisting in Nunes’ capture, including Grants Pass police, Josephine County sheriff’s deputies, Medford police, Josephine County Parole and Probation and the FBI. |
